The source and summit of the Christian life
The Eucharist is the heart and the summit of the Church's life, for in it Christ associates his Church and all her members with his sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving offered once for all on the cross to his Father; by this sacrifice he pours out the graces of salvation on his Body which is the Church.
The Memorial of Christ's Passover
The Eucharist is the memorial of Christ's Passover, the work of salvation accomplished by the life, death, and resurrection of Christ, made present by the liturgical action. It is not merely a remembrance but a real participation in the Paschal Mystery.
Elements of the Eucharistic Celebration
1. Proclamation of the Word
The Word of God is proclaimed, nourishing our faith and guiding our lives.
2. Thanksgiving
We give thanks to God the Father for all his benefits, above all the gift of his Son.
3. Consecration
Bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit.
4. Holy Communion
We participate in the liturgical banquet by receiving the Lord's body and blood.
Eucharistic Fast
Anyone who is to receive the Most Holy Eucharist is to abstain for at least one hour prior to holy communion from all food and drink, with the sole exception of water and medicine.
First Holy Communion
The First Holy Communion sacramental preparation program requires 2 years of classes. The Religious Education program runs from September through May each year.
