Rev. Hoang Van Thuan

Welcome to the Church of the Visitacion! For more than a century, our Catholic Parish Community has been a vibrant witness to the Gospel in proclaiming the Word and celebrating the Sacraments. From our beginning in 1907 as mostly Irish, Italian, and Maltese Catholics to our present with many African American, Asian, and Hispanic Catholics, we welcome God’s people from the entire Bay Area, as well as the US and around the globe. We also are happy to have Brisbane’s Our Lady of Guadalupe Mission as part of our family. Though we come from a variety of cultures and ethnicities, we are all brothers and sisters and children of God called to live in a community of praise, thanksgiving, and love for one another.

We are grateful to God for His many blessings and gift of His grace to make Christ present in our Valley. Most precious to us is the on-going education and faith formation at our school through the efforts of the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul and our volunteer teachers in our Religious Education Program. Many young people in Visitacion Valley and neighboring areas have benefited from the solid foundation of faith and academic preparation offered at Church of the Visitacion. For adults, we have developed an engaging Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) ministry that has brought many new or returning disciples of Jesus into our worshiping community.

Our mission of ministry is strong with the Parents and Teachers Guild (PTG), Mothers’ Club, Fil-Am Association, Charismatic Prayer Group, Liturgy Committee, Divine Mercy Choir and many volunteers. Our Homebound Ministry offers generous services to the sick, needy, and lonely. We are a Church whose people blend worship and service in a special way to build a better world within our own neighborhood.

It is a privilege for me to serve as Pastor to this loving community, which is so alive in faith and good works. On behalf of the parish community at Church of the Visitacion, I invite Catholics who are new to the area, or who are not currently registered with a parish, to join us in the worship of God and in service to His people.

In the Peace of Christ,

Father Thuan
